Happy Friday!



Hi Mama, happy Friday!
How was May for you?! It was a whirlwind for us, so let me catch you up on alllllll the things:
We spent 2 weeks in Ecuador with my parents, younger brother, and Gabe’s parents. 3 different locations, with lots of exploring and family time. It was great to see Gabe’s extended family (most of them live there) and see some incredible places! Traveling with both families PLUS 2 small children was a lotttt but it was also amazing and wonderful. Some practical things that helped us on this trip:
Keeping routines as close to the same as possible: we all shared a room, but keeping as much of the bedtime routine the same as possible helped everyone go to sleep when it was time, even if we went to bed much later than normal
Keeping meals or snacks similar when possible: luckily our kids eat most of the foods that would be served in Ecuador anyway, but we also made sure to always have some foods they normally would eat available to them (like fruit, yogurt, meat, etc).
Leaning on family: we were traveling with SO MUCH FAMILY, so naturally, we would take advantage of having so many extra hands. It gave Gabe and I time to spend together (and workout together), which was much appreciated. Plus, it gave the kids the chance to spend more time with family and they loved it!
These seem like such obvious things, but I would guess for most of us we treat travel like “whatever happens, happens.” Kind of like when we travel and don’t have general guidelines to follow with our nutrition or movement- and then we wonder why we come back feeling like shit 🤷♀️ . Speaking of, here are my favorite tips for feeling good while traveling without feeling like you’re missing out:
Prioritize Protein: eat whatever else you want, but make sure you are getting in a big serving of protein with every meal. This can be fish, chicken, steak, eggs, whatever really, but aim for at least 4 oz (about the size of the palm of your hand).
Drink WATER: I don’t know why it’s so much harder on vacation to drink enough water, but if you do one thing, make this a priority. It will make literally everything else go better for you, I promise.
Get some movement in: This could be a couple of workouts while you’re away, or setting a step goal for each day and focusing on hitting that. Whatever it is, make sure you get some movement in- you will almost always feel better for it!
This is what my clients work on when they travel, because they have goals of feeling their best AND enjoying their travel!
