Is your hair damaged... or just thirsty?
Split ends, breakage, dullness: what it really means
Dry hair and damaged hair aren’t the same thing. And knowing the difference will save you so much frustration (and wasted product/$$$).
Signs of damage:
Split ends that keep creeping up
Breakage when you brush or style
Hair that feels rough, weak, or “snaps” easily
Zero bounce or elasticity
Only being able to grow your hair to a certain length
Signs of dryness (not damage):
Dullness or lack of shine
Frizz that worsens in certain climates
Hair that feels coarse or brittle—but still strong when stretched
Why this matters: Dry hair often just needs hydration, while damaged hair needs repair.
That’s where product choice is huge. For example, MONAT’s Replenish Masque floods hair with moisture, while the Rejuvabeads Split End Mender actually helps seal and repair damaged strands. Pair them with a lightweight, sulfate-free shampoo (like the Bond IQ Shampoo) and you’ll notice a big difference in just a few washes.
Next week, I’ll share my favorite strategies for taming frizz (and protecting your hair from the weather—because humidity has zero chill).
In the meantime—if you’re not sure whether your hair is dry or damaged, reply and tell me what you’re noticing. I’ll help you figure it out and point you toward the best products for your hair type.
And as always, if you want personalized recommendations, just fill out my hair quiz (it’s free!) and I’ll send you over the best products for your hair type and lifestyle!
Xo,
