How often are you washing your hair?
And what you can do for better scalp health
I used to be a wash hair every other day girl and even then my hair felt oily in between, like it was never really clean at the roots. BUT then my ends felt dry and brittle because I’ve been bleaching it since 2009 😳
Sound like you, too? Well it turns out that washing every day, even if your hair is oily in between could actually be making the problem worse. All that washing causes an imbalance in the skin’s microbiome, and can lead to itchiness, dryness, and even more oily hair.
Most hair products (especially drug store brands and even most salon brands) leave silicones or waxes on the scalp that cause build-up, leaving the scalp a mess. This is why you can get an itchy, dry, or even oily scalp the day after washing.
A hair care brand focused on scalp health will help to clear out all that build up, cleaning the scalp and restoring the scalp microbiome. Because your scalp is still your skin, and requires nutrients to keep it balanced and healthy.
Here are some things you can do to help your scalp between washes:
Avoid products with silicones, waxes, parabens, phthalates, and sulfates
Keep conditioner off your scalp! It goes on the middle of the hair to ends- that’s it
Swap haircare to scalp a health-focused one (like Monat)
If you want to make the swap but don’t know where to start, generally I recommend swapping your shampoo & conditioner FIRST. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
